How to choose the right soil
Topsoil vs garden soil
Screened topsoil is a general-purpose soil for levelling and filling. Garden soil mixes are blended with organic matter so they're ready to plant into straight away. Veggie mix is richer again, for hungry crops.
Soil for new turf
Turf underlay and sandy loam are free-draining, which helps new turf roots grow down quickly. Spread about 100 mm, level it, lightly compact it, then lay your turf.
Clean fill for bulk jobs
When you just need to raise levels, fill holes or build up behind a wall, clean natural fill is the lowest-cost option. Cap it with topsoil if you plan to plant or turf over it.

How much soil do I need for a garden bed?
Multiply length × width × depth in metres. A 4 m × 1 m bed filled 300 mm deep needs 1.2 m³. Our calculator does the maths and converts it to tonnes.
What soil is best for Australian natives?
Many natives, such as grevilleas, banksias and waratahs, are sensitive to phosphorus. A low-phosphorus native soil mix is the safest choice for them.
What soil goes under new turf?
Use a turf underlay blend or sandy loam about 100 mm deep. These free-draining soils help roots establish and reduce waterlogging.
How heavy is a cubic metre of soil?
Garden mixes weigh about 1.0 to 1.1 tonnes per cubic metre. Topsoil, loam and fill weigh about 1.3 to 1.5 tonnes. Wet soil weighs more.
How is delivery priced?
