What sets the price of a hook bin?
There's no one-size-fits-all rate. Four things decide your price, and you control all of them.
Your postcode
Delivery distance and local tip fees differ between suburbs and states, so every price is worked out for your postcode.
Waste type
Green waste and general waste cost less to dispose of than soil, bricks, concrete or waste that needs special handling.
Bin size
Bigger bins hold more and cost more. Choosing the right size is the easiest way to avoid paying for space you don't use.
Delivery date
Weekday delivery is cheapest. A 45% surcharge applies on Saturdays and Sundays. Every price includes 7 days of hire.

Weight vs volume
Heavy waste fills a bin by weight, not space
A cubic metre of soil, bricks or concrete weighs about 1.5 tonnes. A 4 m³ bin has a 1.5 t limit, so it takes only about 1 m³ of heavy waste. For big heavy loads, the 13–19 m³ bins carry up to 6.5 t.
- Choose the heavy waste type when you check prices, so your quote matches your load.
- Mixing a little heavy waste into a light load? Put it at the bottom and spread it evenly.
- Keep waste level with the top edge. Overfilled bins can't be moved safely.
Before your bin arrives
- Pick a spot on firm, level ground that's longer than the bin, with room for the truck to line up behind it.
- Check there are no low branches, wires or roof overhangs. The hook arm lifts the bin as it loads.
- Put boards down if you're worried about marking pavers or a soft driveway.
- If the bin has to go on the road or nature strip, check your council's permit rules first.

What hook bin sizes can I hire?
There are 39 sizes from 2 m³ to 40 m³: small (2–8 m³), medium (9–19 m³), large (20–30 m³) and extra large (31–40 m³). Each size page lists the exact dimensions and weight limit.
Why does the waste type change the price?
Each waste type costs a different amount to take to the tip, sort or recycle. Heavy waste like soil, bricks and concrete, and waste that needs special handling like asbestos, costs more than general household or green waste. Pick the type that matches most of your load so your price is accurate.
What size hook bin do I need?
As a guide, a single room clear-out needs 2–3 m³, a kitchen or bathroom renovation 4–6 m³ and a full home clean-out 8 m³ or more. Building sites and commercial fit-outs usually suit 13–19 m³, and demolition or ongoing site waste 20–30 m³.
How much weight can a hook bin hold?
Weight limits range from 1 tonne on the 2 m³ bin up to 6.5 tonnes. Soil, bricks and concrete weigh about 1.5 tonnes per cubic metre, so heavy loads usually reach the weight limit before the bin looks full.
Is there a weekend surcharge?
Yes. A 45% weekend surcharge applies to Saturday and Sunday deliveries. Choose a weekend date in the price checker and the surcharge is included in the prices shown. Pick a weekday to save.
How long can I keep a hook bin?
Every price includes 7 days of hire, counting the delivery day. If you need the bin for longer, choose a later pick-up date when you book and the extra days are added to your price before you pay.
Do I need a council permit for a hook bin?
Not if the bin goes on your driveway or inside your site. If it has to sit on the road or nature strip, most councils require a permit. The booking form shows whether a road permit can be added for your address.
What can't go in a hook bin?
Hazardous materials, batteries, liquids, gas cylinders and aerosols, and e-waste can't go in a general waste bin. Food waste and asbestos are accepted only when you book that specific waste type, so they are handled correctly.
