Sizing rock for the job
70 to 150 mm rock fills gabion baskets. 150 to 300 mm lines swales and drainage channels. 300 mm and larger armour rock protects embankments, dams and shorelines from erosion.
Plan for placement
Large rock is heavy. Armour rock usually needs an excavator to place it, and the truck needs firm, level ground to tip safely. Check access before you book.

What size rock do I need for gabion baskets?
Choose rock larger than the mesh opening. 70 to 150 mm gabion rock suits most standard gabion baskets and wire walls.
Do I need an excavator for armour rock?
Usually, yes. Rocks of 300 mm and larger are too heavy to place by hand. You can book excavator hire through Tipaload too.
How much does a cubic metre of rock weigh?
Most landscape and armour rock weighs about 1.4 to 1.6 tonnes per cubic metre loose.
How is delivery priced?
Delivery is calculated from your address, the quantity and the tipper needed to carry the load. Enter your address in the booking to see the delivered total before you pay.
