Council & permits

Do you need a permit on the Gold Coast?

Not on private land. On the road, footpath, nature strip or verge, yes, from the City of Gold Coast, and only one skip can sit in the road reserve in front of a place at a time. Dropping a bin on public land without approval can attract a fine, so it's worth letting your supplier arrange it.

Where it goes

Where your Gold Coast load ends up

The council runs recovery centres across the city, and their fees plus Queensland's $125-a-tonne levy are built into what you pay.

Stapylton, Molendinar, Reedy Creek

The three centres that take construction and demolition loads, north to south.

Helensvale & Merrimac

Further City of Gold Coast waste and recycling centres.

Fire ant zone

Much of the coast is in the SE-QLD fire ant zone, set by address; soil and turf movement is controlled.

What locals clear out

What the Gold Coast clears out

Tourism, canal living and rapid growth give the coast its own mix of skip jobs.

New-build waste through the northern corridor at Coomera, Pimpama and Ormeau
High-rise and unit-block clean-outs along the beachfront
Canal and waterfront home renovations at Hope Island and Mermaid Waters
Green waste off the rainforest hinterland blocks
End-of-lease and holiday-let turnovers
Deceased estates and whole-house declutters
Keep these out

What can't go in the skip

Asbestos. Never in the general skip. Wrap it in two layers, label it, and take it to a licensed site, or use a lined asbestos skip.
Soil, mulch and turf (fire ant zone). Much of the coast is in the fire ant zone, set by address; suppliers move these under the rules.
Gas bottles, paint and chemicals. Pressurised or liquid waste goes to a hazardous-waste drop-off, not the bin.
Batteries and e-waste. Electronics and batteries go to an e-waste drop-off, never the skip.
